The short answer is NO you can use both without interference in the treatment of each. you do not need to make a choice. Both modalities complement each other but you need to understand where each one fits with the other.
Health fears are a big factor in choosing a modality. Homeopathy has received narratives often put out by big pharmaceutical companies for many years that negate and do not even allow claims for Homeopathy. It is portrayed as unscientific, which in fact is not true. It is not a woo-woo form of healing, as it is often portrayed, but has a solid research background that confirms its validity. Conventional medicine is often flouted as the safe way to Health, which it is in many cases, but often comes with a cost. This can be both financial and with side effects.
Many people think that certain illnesses need to be stopped in their tracks and this is true in many cases. However, every conventional medication comes with a warning to expect side effects. Some of these side effects can be very debilitating, sometimes more debilitating than the illness itself. This is where Homeopathy comes in. Homeopathy works on minimalising the side effects of many toxic medications without minimalising the medication. It has been used effectively to reduce the side effects of medication and surgery with life threatening illnesses like cancer, rheumatism, hypertension, diabetes and many others including ADHD and psychiatric medications.
On the issue of cost, many people pay medical insurance of some sort, and wish to use this to good effect as they often pay a lot over many years. As a result of this, the first choice is a conventional doctor. The assumption is often that Homeopaths do not get paid out of medical insurance budgets. This is not true. Discovery health, Bonitas, Genesis and Remedi, Gems, Bestmed and Netcare all have provisions for Homeopathy with a registered homeopath. So it can support your path to Health in more than one way. Homeopathic treatments and consults are often cheaper than conventional treatments and medications. They are often perceived to have effects that are slow. But this is absolutely not true. Homeopathic effects can be perceived within an hour to a few days. a homeopath will request feedback within a week and alter the remedy if the effects are slow in coming.
Homeopaths do not generally advertise their services through Allied Health restrictions and thus are not front and centre in the same way as a conventional doctor. Previously homeopaths and conventional doctors were not allowed to practice in the same place. This restriction has recently been lifted. However, registered homeopaths are listed at the Allied health professional council of South Africa (AHPCSA) and at the Homeopathic association of South Africa (HSA). At present there are more than 200 registered Homeopaths in South Africa. The South peninsula has ten that I know of. Google will find a homeopath in your area. I practise in Kalk Bay, but also through https://gentlepath.co.za, where I receive patients from Scarborough and Simonstown at my home on Plateau road. South African registered homeopaths are medically trained to diagnose and thus are also members of the LMHI, which is an international body of medical homeopaths. A homeopath will also refer to specialists if they are required. Although they may diagnose through symptomology, and are practised in that, they will order testing through reputable laboratories as required.
Homeopaths are trained to link symptoms together and not isolate them into specialist systems. Thus they form the role of the forgotten GP. In this way, they can get to the root of a problem.
Do yourself a favour. Do not suffer in silence with your illness. A homeopath is more than a GP and will nurse you gently back to health by holding your hand as you traverse a rocky path. You do not have to make a choice. You can take a road that feels safe for you without it costing you an arm and a leg (literally and figuratively).
