There are a multitude of learning difficulties that homoeopathy can help with. Importantly each person/child is treated individually. Each person has a variety of imbalances that draw attention away from a task. These imbalances may not be physically obvious but often have a more nebulous origin. Homoeopaths are trained to detect these imbalances, be they physical, emotional or mental.

A person with dispersed attention can be due to an excessive sensitivity to external stimuli (ADHD) or internal stimuli (ADD), or may experience memory sustainability that is too strong or too weak. Reversals of letters, difficulty reading are all symptoms that can be addressed, many of these difficulties are exacerbated by anxiety.   Many remedies help to ease these problems creating an open, calmer space where attention can be more controlled.

The Homoeopathic toolbox of remedies is vast, having over 7000 remedies. Thus the in depth interview given will seek to find the most appropriate remedy for the person. The remedy or remedies chosen seek to address all the symptoms exhibited. the remedy is potentised to a degree where it will address the overriding symptom at its heart. The remedy then stimulates the person physically, mentally and emotionally at once to work against the symptoms presented. Thus, it is not the remedy working, but the “vitality” of the person receiving the remedy. Remedies are very dilute and can be used even on babies without side effects.

Homoeopathic remedies are absorbed under the tongue, where the prominent veins absorb them directly into the blood stream without going through the digestive system. Thus they work very quickly, and one can determine whether there is an effect within 15 minutes.  For example, a sudden panic attack can be alleviated almost immediately with the correct remedy. Thus they can also be used as soon as symptoms arise. Extreme sensitivity to sound and light can be modified and focus returned as the mind begins to wander.

Homoeopathic remedies have been criticised because they are seen as too dilute to have an effect. However, the human body is extremely sensitive to minute quantities of substances. An example of this can be seen with allergies, where simply the atomised presence of a cat or peanut can cause hives or anaphylactic shock. New research has shown that even the most highly dilute Homoeopathic remedies show the presence of nano-sized particles. What is important is that the remedies, appropriately chosen will stimulate the person to react as opposed to creating an effect itself.  This is a fundamental difference with Homoeopathic remedies and conventional medications. Conventional medications are given in strength, and here the medicines themselves create direct effects that are not all focused on the symptom only. For example Ritalin is like a strong dose of caffeine and will cause alertness while it is active in the blood. However, it also causes the body to react against it, as it is perceived as a toxin. As a result, a side effect is extreme tiredness and loss of appetite. Over time, the strength of the stimulant needs to be increased to have the same effect. Thus chronic use becomes necessary, bringing with it an enhancement of the side effects too.

Homoeopathic remedies act in an opposite way in that as the body becomes more balanced, less stimulus is needed. This may bring up more hidden symptoms which would then be addressed by a different remedy. However, they will not be used chronically over time.

In many cases, especially if a person has been on conventional medication for some time, there may be a period of detoxing that needs to be done first, and other issues may have been hidden. Thus other therapists may need to use their skills subsequently as well. this slowly but surely leads to balance.

Gentle path seeks to heal these other gaps by referring to skilled therapists. The road is more convoluted, but more sure. Give it a try. Further therapies will be discussed in further blogs.
